|An elk crosses Gibbon River in the Gibbon River canyon while following a cow as another larger bull,
his harem already gathered, takes a drink from Madison River in Yellowstone National Park.
|A bull elk charges through Madison River east of West Yellowstone to chase a cow back to his herd. Elk begin their breeding season, called the rut, in September. They become more aggressive towards anything at this time and expend their energy trying to keep the cows from leaving his herd.|
